SAFETY & SECURITY AT ROAD RACES
We have seen hundreds of road races, from one-mile fun runs to marathons. All of them have risks, and some have led to the death of the participant. The signed waiver has limitations, and what is not shared is the limited liability that the producer has for the participants, volunteers, and all other individuals.
What is the leading causes for casualties at road races?
Who is liable?
What is the inherent risk?
WHAT IS THE LIABILITY OF VOLUNTEERS?
Event Producers who obtain a permit to use public streets, bike paths, and other connecting walkways assume that the volunteers participating in their event have the best interest of the participants at heart.
The volunteers, equipped with a volunteer shirt, safety vest, and snacks at the volunteer tent, are expected to serve as goodwill agents on the event day.
However, without proper training (1-2 hours recommended), volunteers can pose the most significant liability to your event. Our September newsletter will cover critical problems with using volunteers. The newsletter is free; subscribe today.
